Abstract
Each year, over 40,000 burn patients in the US need hospitalization, with treatment costs over $6,000 per day. Wound irrigation is an important step, but the cost-effectiveness of different methods is unclear. This study compared two treatments: pure hypochlorous acid (pHA) and mafenide solution. The study found that pHA was safer and more cost-effective, saving hospitals an average of $133 per patient over 14 days. Therefore, pHA could be a cost-saving option for burn treatment.
