Abstract:
Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) is a powerful antimicrobial substance that the human immune system produces in response to infections. It is effective against bacteria, viruses, and fungi, and may be more powerful than many antibiotics. HOCl can kill bacteria without causing antibiotic resistance, unlike conventional antibiotics that target specific critical parts of bacteria. Additionally, HOCl is safe for human cells and does not cause common side effects like stomach issues or allergic reactions. This makes HOCl a promising alternative to antibiotics, especially as antibiotic resistance increases. This review explores how HOCl works, its possible medical uses, and areas for future research.
